PRELUDE

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

OPENING SENTANCES

The Lord is merciful and gracious,

slow to anger and abounding in love (Ps. 103:8).

LITANY FOR LENT

For forty days and nights the rain fell, and the waters covered the face of the earth.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

For forty years the people wandered, seeking the land of God’s promise.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

Moses spent forty days on the mountain, learning the commandments of God.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

Elijah traveled forty days in the wilderness to hear the voice of God in the silence.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

Jonah cried out to the people of Nineveh: Repent, or in forty days you will perish.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

Jesus fasted and prayed for forty days and was tested by the devil.

Lead us, O Lord, from death to life.

(Brief silence)

Eternal God, as we are baptized into the death of Jesus Christ, so give us the grace of repentance that we may pass through the grave with him and be born again to eternal life. For he is the One who was crucified, dead, and buried, and rose again for us, Jesus our Savior.

Amen.

HYMN

CONFESSION AND PARDON

This is the proof of God’s great love: that while we were sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8).

God of mercy, you sent Jesus Christ to seek and save the lost. We confess that we have strayed from you and turned aside from your way. We are misled by pride, for we see ourselves pure when we are stained, and great when we are small. We have failed in love, neglected justice, and ignored your truth. Have mercy, O God, and forgive our sin. Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ, our Savior.

God’s love has been poured into your hearts through the gift of the Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! Amen.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION

Gracious God, our way in the wilderness, guide us, by your Word, through these forty days, and minister to us with your Holy Spirit, so that we may be reformed, restored, and renewed; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING

(To be read following the reading of scripture) The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For the church around the world we ask new life.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For all who carry out ministries in your church, we ask grace and wisdom.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For Christians in every land, we ask new unity in your name.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For Jews, Muslims, and people of other faiths, we ask your divine blessing.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For those who cannot believe, we ask your faithful love.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For governors and rulers of every land, we ask your guidance.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

For people who suffer and sorrow; (Here prayers my be shared)

We ask your healing peace.

Your kingdom come, Your will be done.

(Brief silence)

God of love, as in Jesus Christ you gave yourself to us, so may we give ourselves to your, living according to your holy will. Keep our feet firmly in the way where Christ leads us; make our mouths speak the truth that Christ teaches us; fill our bodies with the life that is Christ within us. In his holy name we pray. Amen.

What is Per Capita and How You Can Help

Per Capita is a fundamental way in which all of the nearly 10,000 congregations and mid councils of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) connect, participate, and share in the work of the wider church.

Per Capita is the primary source of funding for the Office of the General Assembly, and is how Presbyterians mutually and equitably share the costs of coming together to discern the Spirit’s leading for the future.

All Presbyterians are called to take part in the ecclesiastical and administrative work shared by the whole church through per capita giving. All congregations – large and small – are encouraged to participate, either through an annual budget item or through a special direct appeal to their congregations.

Office of the General Assembly, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)

2021 Per Capita is $32.23.

     Presbytery of Tampa Bay…. $21.75

     Synod of the Southeast…… $1.50

     General Assembly……………. $8.98

Per capita is per person and can be paid through online giving or in-person at one’s church. Those who are Friends of the church are welcome to donate to the Per Capita funding.

Dear Members and Friends,

Our church is coming to life again!

This letter officially kicks off our 2021 Stewardship Campaign. Enclosed in this mailing you will find: 1. A letter from our pastor; 2. A proposed 2021 ministry budget; 3. A pledge card. Please take the time to prayerfully consider your financial support of our Church.

For you who prefer to pledge electronically, you may also make a pledge by going to our web site and doing one of the following: Click the donation button and follow the instructions, or click the contact button and indicate your pledge.

During the Pandemic, our doors have never been totally closed! Because of your generosity our Community Food Pantry has been able to feed a hungry community increasing in number.  We believe we are doing the work of Jesus Christ by meeting the food needs of the community.

We have made our church buildings more usable and energy efficient by installing LED lighting and new air-conditioning in both buildings. It’s up-to-date and ready to use. Our new web site is up and running: www.lifetreechurch.org.

In-person worship begins November 29 at 11 am with a service under the sanctuary portico and parking area. Worshippers may stay in their cars and tune into the designated radio station or bring their own chairs to sit closer. All CDC safety guidelines will be strictly followed. Our pastor, the Rev. Dr. Jeff Guild will lead the worship service.

2020 Stewardship Letter From The Pastor

LifeTree Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, Florida

First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River, Florida

November 9, 2020

…and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations” (Rev. 22:2b)

Dear Members and Friends,

During this time of illness and division, it is true we can turn to Jesus Christ and his church for healing and reconciliation. This has been so true of Life Tree Church during the uncertain months of 2020. In a year marked by transition and at times crisis, our Lord has been very present as the Healer to our community of faith. We are experiencing healing in so many ways at Life Tree Church:

In the joy of our “on-line” worship and fellowship.

From the feeding ministry of the Food Pantry.

By the prayers we share with and for each other.

With the sharing of our sorrows.

Through the resolution of conflict and in reconciliation with our sisters and brothers.

Enclosed with my letter is a letter from your Session members introducing the 2021 Stewardship Campaign, and describing the many ministries of your Church. As I read through the first draft of their letter, I was struck by the joy and enthusiasm of the writers. New life is often the response to healing!

I hope you will join in the celebration of life as together we seek healing for our Church, community, nation, and world.

As we look to 2021 our Annual Stewardship Campaign I hope you will consider pledging your time, talents, and treasures to Life Tree Presbyterian Church.

Grace and peace,

Jeffrey G. Guild, M.Div, D.Min
Pastor
